Did you know that Burlington boasts our very own semi-pro minor league baseball team? The Burlington Bandits, formerly the Burlington Twins, have called Burlington home since 2011, when the franchise moved to our fine city from Mississauga, thanks to President and Owner Scott Robinson. The Bandits are a member of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), which is made up of nine teams from across southern and eastern Ontario. The team is a great mix of young, local talent and seasoned veterans, which means you’ll be watching some top-notch action!
There’s no need to make the long trek into Toronto to see the boys of summer take to the field, when you can make the short drive to watch the Bandits play at Nelson Park, located at 4235 New Street (behind Nelson High School) in Burlington. This premier sporting venue is one of Burlington’s largest parks and will offer a fully licensed bar and concession this year, helping to make your experience at the ball diamond complete and unforgettable.
The Bandits play 3 or 4 games every week from May through July; playoffs begin in August. Home games are Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons at Nelson Park. Tickets are affordable, parking is free and there are no seats in the nosebleed section! If you come with a group, you’ll get a great deal on the ticket price, and don’t forget to bring your kids, who just might win a prize for being at the game.
In an effort to give back to the community, the Bandits are partnered with organizations such as the United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton and the Burlington Organized Minor Baseball Association (BOMBA), among others.
Make sure you take your family out to the ballgame this season and root, root, root for the home team! It’ll be a shame if you’re not there. Show your support for the Red and Black!
