Burro: Tacos, ole!

The Alex had been a neighbourhood staple for years.  Its cozy atmosphere and simple menu made it easy accessible dining for downtown foodies.

burro-mainEarlier this summer the Alex shut its doors.  This caught some off guard, a foodie favourite shutting its doors; even more so after the circumstances surrounding Test Kitchen’s closing. But after five short days they re-opened their doors with a different look.

HELLO BURLINGTON, I’M BURRO,” introduces their website.  Burro is a taco bar.  It has all the same ear marks of the Alex, with a few changes. First the atmosphere; colourful fabric is draped across the ceiling adding a vibrancy that changes that cozy, intimate atmosphere.  It really struck me as a great place to hang out with friends on a Friday night.

Burro is a great study on menu simplicity. They have six distinctly different tacos on their menu, from the traditional to the spicy brussels sprout, why not try them all?  Their menu is rounded out by delicious dishes like their ahi tuna ceviche (great heat in this dish), to traditional guacamole and chips (so simple but so delicious).  Did I forget to mention that the kitchen is 100% gluten free?

To top off a great menu, Burro serves up a local craft beer as well as an on-house brew.  It’s simple, it’s fun and it downright delicious.

Tacos anyone?
