Five family friendly fun things to do this February; say that ten times fast. Just a joke friends! But in all seriousness here’s five family friendly activities you can do in Burlington this winter!

  1. Scavenger Hunt

Healthy Kids Burlington has come up with an awesome event aimed at getting everyone out into the city and active this winter! They’re utilizing the Goose Chase app to create a digital scavenger hunt throughout the city.

Here’s how it works:

First, head to www.goosechase.com and register as a family or group; then download the app on your phone (apple or android). Then search for the ‘Winter Play Scavenger Hunt!’ There’ll be a list of mission to complete simply by snapping a picture on your phone and uploading it. Each completed mission earns you points which qualify you for different draws. The more you earn the better the prizes you could win!

The hunt comes to an end February 19th

2. The Big Freeze @ the RBG

Come to the RBG and learn about a chilly time in our world’s past! The Big Freeze will be around until April. Learn about the ice age through two interactive exhibits with tons of daily activities!

At the Ice Age Mammals exhibit, learn about the creatures that roamed the land during the ice age. You’ll also learn how the ice age changed the landscape of Canada. At the other exhibit, ‘After the Thaw,’ see how drastically ecosystems changed as all the ice melted. We once had mammoths and mastodons roaming the land, but after the thaw where did they go?

  1. Public Skating

February is going to be winter’s comeback month (or so we hear). With things cooling down once again, why not take to the ice at Rotary Centennial Pond or one of many outdoor community rinks through Burlington? Don’t forget about the arenas! Many offer regular family skates as well as pick up hockey.

On Family Day, Burlington’s MPP Eleanor McMahon is hosting a free family skate at Mainway Ice Centre! Stop in for a few laps and some hot chocolate!

  1. Attend an event at a local conservation area

We’re lucky enough to be so close to a number of beautiful conservation areas. Conservation Halton hosts events all year round that happen only a short drive away from us. Events like an Evening Family Snowshoe Hike at Crawford Lake or Tales by a Winter Fire at Mountsberg are two of many happening this February.
